CDM, CFPP Practice Standards

We are excited to announce the release of 17 new CDM, CFPP Practice Standards designed to support your professional growth and daily practice.

The Professional Practice Standards for the CDM, CFPP establish the foundation for competent, ethical, and high-quality practice in foodservice management and nutrition. These standards serve as a guide for decision-making, professional conduct, and performance expectations, ensuring consistency and accountability in the delivery of services that support optimal nutritional care and operational excellence.

They reflect the updated CDM, CFPP Scope of Practice and highlight the essential knowledge and skills that set our credentialed professionals apart.

Know Your Impact - Review the CDM, CFPP Clinical Task Chart Today!

As a CDM, CFPP, your role in long-term care is vital and your scope of practice is broader than many realize. To help you advocate for your expertise and clarify your clinical contributions, we encourage you to review the Comparison of Clinical Tasks for CDM, CFPPs vs. Non-CDM, CFPPs for Long-Term Care Staffing Requirements

This chart outlines the clinical tasks CDM, CFPPs are qualified to perform compared to other staffing options like CFSM and those with just hospitality or foodservice degrees. It highlights your ability to:
  • Conduct nutrition screening and care planning
  • Document progress notes and collaborate with RDNs
  • Participate in IDT meetings and QAPI initiatives
  • Complete MDS Section K and CAAs
  • Assist with food selection based on written diet order
Whether you are preparing for a survey, mentoring a new CDM, CFPP, or just want to reinforce your value, this chart is a powerful tool to showcase your competencies and support compliance with CMS regulations.

Call for Volunteers

Are you interested in gaining insight into how test items for the CDM, CFPP Credentialing Exam are created? Join the CBDM Item Writers Committee and learn how to develop high-quality exam questions based on psychometric standards and best practices. As a committee member, you’ll receive training and contribute by writing a set number of questions focused on specific areas of the exam content outline. After the meeting, you may be asked to continue item writing or help review existing questions for updates or reclassification. This committee serves as a valuable steppingstone to future opportunities within CBDM.

This committee will meet twice in June 2026 via Zoom, with each session lasting four hours. You can earn up to 8 CE for your participation on this committee!

We’re looking for CDM, CFPPs from various sectors of non-commercial foodservice—such as long-term care, acute care, schools, correctional facilities, and military settings—with a range of experience levels and certification backgrounds.

Please note: Individuals may participate in the Item Writers Committee for only one term.
